I Am a Scorpion
by John Whitworth
I am a scorpion in another life.
I sting my enemies to death, it’s true,
But that, in essence, is what scorpions do.
I am a scorpion in another life.
I am a scorpion with a scorpion wife.
I love her and I stick to her like glue.
She fits as snugly as a well-loved shoe.
I am a scorpion with a scorpion wife.
We scorpions enjoy a life of strife.
We hanker for those deeds of derring-do,
Mayhem and murder now as hitherto.
We scorpions enjoy a life of strife.
We scorpions prefer to wield the knife.
Whyever not? We know the world’s a zoo
And humankind require a bugaboo.
We scorpions prefer to wield the knife.
